Friends Will Roast You On An Open Fire

Okay, they probably won’t roast you. (Not COVID-safe.) You might actually feel more of a chill.)  But if you would like to be invited to those post-pandemic summer parties, perhaps a little holiday gift might be an idea.

“My friends and family members aren’t shallow like that.”

Shallow, no. Hurt, possibly. And isn’t it amazing how long some people remember things, and bring them up at the oddest times?

“Look, it’s been a tough year. I can’t spend a lot.”

Honey, are you forgetting? This is San Francisco Jewelry Doctor

we’re talking about. We have gorgeous jewelry in all price ranges

—from sterling silver under $25 to platinum, along with beautiful handcrafted jewelry, too. (That would be the Laynie Tzena collection: Pendants, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings in Venetian glass, porcelain, gemstones, and Swarovski crystal.)

Plus, Stuller https://www.stuller.com, one of our favorite sources,

is open Saturdays through this weekend. So if perhaps somebody

told you, “Sorry, can’t do it in time”—we can!*

Let’s put our heads together about something wonderful for the people in your life who love jewelry (including you, of course). Call Laynie at 415/796-3969 (text 415/596-4244) and you’ll be the belle (or beau) of the Zoom ball and have a grand ol’ time at that barbecue next summer, too.

San Francisco Jewelry Doctor. Where the holidays are actually happy.

*Is this a good time to remind you that Santa will be coming down the chimney on Thursday? So, you know, now would be a really good time to call.

Miracle Time!

Chanukah already? Yes, indeed. And do we have goodies for you! (Yes, we mean you, as well as everybody else on the list. Why not you?)

So while we take a quick break from designing all kinds of lovely gifts (don’t worry, honey, there are still seven more days in the holiday) to eat a latke or two, here’s a well-loved story from Chanukah past

http://myjewelrydoctor.blogspot.com/2017/12/the-perfect-gift-times-eight-or-hark.html

and the all-important best ways to reach your friendly neighborhood Jewelry Doctor* (415/796-3969; text 415/596-4244).

Happy reading! We look forward to making miracles for you (except where you call us on the ninth day; we’re good, but making the calendar go backward? Honey, even the Jewelry Doctor has limits.).

San Francisco Jewelry Doctor. Making those candles burn a little bit brighter—and you get to bask in the glow.

Holiday Time!, or Virginia Woolf Had it Right

“Hello?”

“Zoom, zoom, Betty.”

“What are you talking about, Cheryl?” Betty puts down her latte to find out what she’s got in mind.

“Betty, do you know what tomorrow is?”

“Saturday,” says Betty.

“Correct. But not just any Saturday. It is Small—Business—Saturday. Small Business Saturday. And you know what that means, right?”

Betty smiles. “Oh, I am two steps ahead of you, hon. You see, I’ve already called Laynie at San Francisco Jewelry Doctor, and we’ve made a good start on my list.”

“Oh, is that so?” says Cheryl, laughing. “Well, as it happens I called her a few days ago. I was just calling to invite you to take a look at some of the things I’m most excited about.”

“Deal,” says Betty. “Text me tonight and we’ll set up a Zoom call for tomorrow.  Maybe we can get Laynie to join us.”

“Sounds great,” says Cheryl. “And would you look how early we are? We’re good!”

* * *

Can it be?  The holiday season is here?  Yes, indeed.  It’s a bit different this year, given the importance of doing everything we can to keep everybody safe from COVID-19.

The good news is we’ve got an abundance of beautiful jewelry for you, great choices for every member of the family and others in your circle, too.  For starters, Stuller has a brand new (and quite wonderful) gift guide.

https://assets.stullercloud.com/web/apps/images/flipbooks/2020/HolidayGiftGuide2020NB/HolidayGiftGuide2020NB.pdf

And of course we’re designing all kinds of lovely things: gemstone jewelry set in gold (including yellow gold, white gold, and rose gold), platinum, and sterling silver, and our handcrafted collection of pendants, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets in Venetian glass, porcelain, gemstones, and Swarovski crystal.  Just let us know if you’d like to see pictures of the collection.

So what’s on your wish list?  Call the doctor—the Jewelry Doctor, that is—at 415/796-3969 (text 415/596-4244), and let’s put our heads together about gifts for all your favorite people.

San Francisco Jewelry Doctor.  Where the magic starts.

*“Wait, what’s Virginia Woolf got to do with it?”

Simple. In addition to writing wonderful books Virginia Woolf is rumored to have said, “There is no challenge too great to be solved by two women in one morning.”

Casual Fatigue? The Cure Is At Hand.

“I’ve been wearing the same five outfits over and over!” a friend was heard to say.

The Jewelry Doctor understands. She had found herself doing the same thing. Then one day she said, “Wait a minute!”

Out came a beloved blouse, to be worn as a tunic over a favorite top and skirt. She wore one of her boldest pendants, twirled her hair into a bun, and put on—wait for it—a bracelet.

Soon she felt fabulous. At the store she mentioned she had been feeling what she thought should be called “casual fatigue”—boredom over the same kind of ensemble day after day after day. The person ringing her up said, “I know! I want a makeover. I’m thinking of coloring my hair.”

Down the street someone said, “My boyfriend told me last night, ‘I want to get dressed up!’” (He explained that before the pandemic they would put on beautiful clothes and go out to dinner every so often, and that the response to “Well, you can always get dressed up for me” was met with a look.)

How about you? Do you have casual fatigue? What do you miss wearing?

Take a look in the closet and in your jewelry box. Say “hello” to some friends that haven’t gotten much love lately. (If that’s because they might need a little TLC, or perhaps some coordinating earrings, sing out and we’ll put our heads together.)

Remember, nobody ever said we have to wear the same thing until the pandemic is over (aside from a mask to protect ourselves and our community). And nobody said we have to go casual every waking minute.

So let yourself experiment. You might really like the results, not just for the way it lights you up—hooray for that!—but the lovely things some of your favorite people have to say.

“I love your jewelry!” said someone at the store.

“Thank you,” said the Jewelry Doctor, extending a card.

But the good feeling didn’t stop there. She could feel it for the rest of the day.

So how about you? What would you love to wear? Maybe it’s an old fave that has been languishing in the closet or jewelry box. Or maybe you’ll put things together in a whole new way.

Whatever you do, have fun being you!

Your Mother

—called to ask if perhaps Mother’s Day could be changed to Monday this year, so as to give you a little more time to choose a gift. She didn’t want to embarrass you, as you’ve been so busy, well, just managing everything what with the pandemic and all.

Being a doctor, I understood immediately. Then I had a thought.
Why not make it even easier for everybody and extend Mother’s Day? Make it “Mother’s Week” or “Mother’s Month.” (There was then a brief discussion of some things that required nine months to produce a result, but we won’t go into that here.)

We decided on a “Mother’s Day Week,” beginning on Sunday and lasting until we all thought that week was over. (Time is so fluid
right now.)

So there you have it. With a wave of the ol’ magic wand and some wise words from your very own mother, you are not late. Far from it.

Well, not all that far from it, so you might want to call the doctor—the Jewelry Doctor, that is—at 415/796-3969 (text 415/596-4244).

Stuller, as you may know, is up and running.  So if you think your mom would like gold or silver jewelry (or platinum or diamond), here’s their Mother’s Day brochure.

If your mom’s taste leans toward handcrafted jewelry, our pendants, necklaces, earrings and bracelets get rave reviews. Just call or text us and we’ll be happy to send you some pictures. (Feel free to send us pictures of your mom, too.)

Oh, and since you asked, while your mother has every confidence
that you will yourself select the perfect gift, as you do every year
—she said a gift certificate would be fine with her, too.

“Hooray! What’s that number again?”

415/796-3969. For those who prefer to text:  415/596-4244.

The Jewelry Doctor’s uncle once told her it was snowing so hard
on the day she was born that he could barely get to the hospital. Note, though, that he did get to the hospital, and her mother did
give birth, storm or no storm. So a little gift—or maybe a big one
—honey, you can do this.

Honey, Of Course We Are

“Drat, drat, and double drat!”

“What is it now, Debbie?” Sandy folded her hands and waited.

“Just this: Since they have us all working from home, I finally have time to go through my jewelry and get everything ready to take to the San Francisco Jewelry Doctor.”

“Sounds good. What’s the problem?”

“They’re probably closed, silly. Everything is closed except food stores. The government probably wouldn’t consider getting your jewelry fixed an emergency, but for those of us who have big events coming up this spring and summer it sure seems that way.”

“Debbie, did you try calling the Jewelry Doctor? I understand they do a lot of work with people outside the San Francisco Bay Area. Unless they all fly in, the Jewelry Doctor probably works with them via mail and messenger services.”

Right you are, Sandy.

So Debbie? Not to worry. We’re open for business as usual. The only difference between last month and this one is that we’re working virtually, for now.

So call us at 415/796-3969 (text 415/596-4244), tell us all about your “patients” for the Jewelry Doctor, along with those birthdays, that anniversary, other special occasions coming up, and anything else on your wish list, and we’ll be happy to help you.

What's Purple All Over?

If you said, “amethyst,” give yourself a gold star. And before this month of February is all over let’s take a moment to celebrate our friend the amethyst in all its lovely hues, from the palest of purples (the kind of color Monet would have loved) to the intensity of, say, this solitaire pendant from Stuller.

“Wait. Didn’t you write about solitaire pendants a while back?”

Why, yes. And this story will give you even more ideas for your new jewelry with that amethyst you’ve been dreaming about*.

*“How did you know about the amethyst?”

Honey, as we have previously established, I am a doctor. We know everything.
