"No, Really, I Love It!"

All over the world, in many different languages*, people who have just removed ribbons and bows and opened their gift pronounce these very words, realizing their expression may have not exactly communicated enthusiasm. They smile. They say thank you so much. So, so much. Then they call the Jewelry Doctor.

“Help!”

What follows is an explanation that they love their one-and-only (or one of their many admirers; people vary), but what is often referred to as “That Thing”? Not so much.

Fear not, jewelry lovers. Help is at hand. Read on—and then call your friendly neighborhood** Jewelry Doctor at 415/796-3969 (text 415/596-4244) and we will make it all better.

*”What do you mean, ‘many languages’? How many do you speak?”

A couple. But remember: I am a doctor, And doctors have great powers of understanding.

Can That Be Sour Cream on Rudolph's Nose?, or Those Holidays Get Closer Every Time You Look

“Oh, Chanukah, Oh, Chanukah”—

“So I heard. Isn’t tonight the third night?”

Well, yes it is. And honey, you are on it! Your Jewelry Doctor has been busy helping people just like you* with all their holiday gifts. And the good news is twofold:

a. There are still five nights in Chanukah. You are not late. Here’s a wonderful story to get you in the mood.

http://myjewelrydoctor.blogspot.com/2017/12/the-perfect-gift-times-eight-or-hark.html

b. We have lots of wonderful jewelry for whatever holiday you’re celebrating.

So give us a call at 415/796-3969 (ask for Laynie) or send a message to 415/596-4244 and let’s put our heads together about what will most delight the people on your list.

And honey? Call us now (yes, you can finish your latke** or gingerbread cookie first) so we can get everything ready for you in time.

*Yes, of course, there’s no one exactly like you. But you knew that.

**And maybe save a little sour cream for tomorrow.

“How did you know I was eating a latke? And how did you know I was running low on sour cream?”

Darling, haven’t you heard?  I am a doctor. And doctors know everything.

Are We Open on Small Business Saturday? Do Birds Fly?

Yes and yes. Of course we’re here for you on Small Business Saturday—and every day. We’ve got great gifts for you and yours. Here, to get you in the mood, is a beloved story from our archives.

http://myjewelrydoctor.blogspot.com/2018/11/small-business-saturday-is-so-romantic.html

“Me? Shopping for me? I’m supposed to be shopping for everybody else.”

Oh, honey, why should you be left out of the fun? You, of all people! No, no, no. It’s certainly about you—and those lucky other people you know.

So—what’s on your wish list? Call us at 415/796-3969 (text 415/596-4244) and you can find everything you need* and save all that time driving and standing in line**.

San Francisco Jewelry Doctor. Making holidays a lot more fun.

*Aside from the groceries. You know, that milk carton is kind of low.

“How did you know about my groceries?”

Let us say it in unison: I am a doctor. We know everything.

**Unless you like standing in line. In which case, we understand there are some concerts coming up. Bring water, a sandwich, and maybe something warm to wear after the first few hours. Enjoy!

How to Have a Great Friday

Happy Post-Thanksgiving! Long time no see!

“That’s my line.”

You’re right! (As usual.)

“Where’ve you been?”

Oh, honey, your Jewelry Doctor has been designing up a storm (look for pictures and stories about some great redesign soon, and to see jewelry in the Laynie Tzena collection, call us at 415/796-3969 or send a text message to 415/596-4244).

And now that we’re officially in the holiday season your Jewelry Doctor would also like to cure the holiday blues known to occur after standing in line, having people step on you or sneeze on you.

“And how do you plan to do that?”

Simple. We have all kinds of wonderful jewelry, from sterling silver under $25 to platinum. We can’t wait to put our heads together about great gifts for those on your list.

“But what about Black Friday?”

So glad you asked. Here’s a story that might come in handy.

What's New--For You?

“I usually like sparkly things,” says someone. “But I’ve been feeling drawn to colors that are more subdued.”

“Wow,” says her friend. “For me, it’s just the opposite. I’m usually ‘Earth tones all the way,’ but lately I’ve been craving color, something really vivid. That feels more alive to me right now.”

Our tastes change. The important thing to focus on is what calls to you now. That doesn’t mean tossing jewelry you’ve loved for years. You may be madly in love with it down the road. But if you’re wearing something simply because you’re used to it—is that how you want to live your life? The jewelry you wear now should reflect who you are now.

This month gives our two friends a great opportunity to test this out. We’ve got one of the boldest gemstones as our May companion—emerald, which we wrote about here.

http://myjewelrydoctor.blogspot.com/2019/05/did-somebody-say-emerald.html

More about emerald from the Gemological Institute of America.

https://www.gia.edu/emerald-history-lore

But emerald isn’t our only companion this month. The other birthstone is, as you see in “Did Somebody Say Emerald?”, one of your Jewelry Doctor’s favorite stones: agate.

Why agate? Oh, honey, because it comes in all shapes and sizes, lots of different colors, and you can do so much with it. And agate has been around for a long, long time. Here’s a pair of agate earrings from the Victorian age that look as though they might have been designed last week.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agate#/media/File:Victorian_banded_agate_ear_rings.jpg

Here, also thanks to Wikipedia, is a wonderful picture of a variety of freshly tumbled agates (which, by the way, might slake the thirst of both of our friends, since those orange ones are quite bold, while some of the others have their drama a little below the surface).

What are you feeling most drawn to these days? Call us at 415/796-3969 (text 415/596-4244), and let’s create something that feels true to who you are now.

The Case of the Pesky Ex-Phone Number (Perhaps You've Had One?) and Our Real Phone Number

Once upon a time there was a company called Merchant Circle (“MC,” for short). The nice people at Merchant Circle thought it would be a good idea to create a listing for Laynie Tzena Design, home of the San Francisco Jewelry Doctor. Great! Except for the fact that they used our old phone number.

So: If you see a phone number ending in -3690, thats the ex. The correct number is (and has been for years, MC):

415/796-3969.

(You can also send messages to 415/596-4244.)

We now return to our regularly scheduled program.

“But why hasn’t MC gotten rid of the old number? You contacted them, right?”

Indeed we have—corrected the listing on their site, called them, written to them. But alas, they have yet to respond. Hence, we are writing to the most important person—You! (We are still hoping they will correct things on their end. But as long as you know how to reach us, that’s what counts.)

“Okay. But wait, Valentines Day is coming. Where are your stories about that?”

Well, thanks for asking. Yes, indeed! We have a whole bunch of Valentines Day stories, with lots of yummy jewelry for you and yours. http://myjewelrydoctor.blogspot.com/search/label/Valentine%27s%20Day

“For me? Don’t you mean for my sweetheart?”

Honey, you can both have jewelry. Isnt life wonderful? (I mean, aside from The Thing.)

* * *

Update, 4/25/22: Well, it’s “Good News, Bad News” on the Merchant Circle front.

First, the good news: the old phone number no longer appears when you look for the San Francisco Jewelry Doctor. Hooray! And thanks, MC.

Now the bad news: When MC took down the listing with the old phone number the reviews from our beloved customers who had posted there were also deleted.

We now pause for a moment of silence.

Update, 5/12/22: Okay, we’re back—and with some very good news:  Those reviews have now magically reappeared!

Do let us know if anything changes, because, well, the internet.  In the meantime, we have been busily making all kinds of jewelry magic for our beloved customers and look forward to creating beautiful things for you and those you love.
